Heart Of A Champion

Since the very first football game of 8th grade, Nelly's "Heart Of A Champion," has been AJ's theme song. On game day, it's on loop, playing over and over and over.

"Ain't no way they can stop me now
Cause I'm on my way, I can feel my reign comin
It's the blood of a champion, pumpin
Deep inside my veins, too much pride to be runnin
I'ma give what I can and more, even if
My blood, my sweat, and my tears don't mean nothin
It's the heart of a champion!"

Although today is a scrimmage, it's a game. Like the previous years leading to his senior year, The Heart Of A Champion, is playing through the house. "It gets me focused for the game ahead."

Busy Summer Has ComeTo An End

White Hall High School 2010 Football Team - At Dog Days

It was a busy summer, with college football camps, weight training, FASDOGS speed camp, football practice, and work.

Camps

Add caption
Attending college football camps has been one of the highlights of the summer. Harding University, University of Memphis, University of Missouri - Mizzou, and the University of Arkansas made up the summer schedule of camps.

The skills learned at these camps has been a benefit to AJ's practice, and will be an asset at game time. "I'm a better pass blocker, and can make smoother cuts. I also have better explosion, foot work, hand/eye coordination and balance."

Weight Training

The summer has provided the perfect opportunity to work and strengthen both upper body, and legs. "I've gotten bigger, stronger and faster."

After practice, and work, going to the gym didn't always sound good. But determination was key, and has paid off. The training has benefit AJ's explosion, and quickness the most.

Summer Job

Working at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff's (UAPB) fish farm paid off in several ways. Working in the heat for at least four hours a day, while weed eating around the ponds, removing snakes, and other tasks has helped with acclimating to the heat.

Lifting and moving heavy pipes, water valves, and 15 lb catfish, as well as walking through ponds while saning has also acted as strengthening exercises.

"This job has helped me see real world experiences, and convinced me to stay in school and get an education. It was HOT!"

Expectations

"We're [football team] looking to be undefeated and make it to state. Our goal is to work hard everyday at practice, and give 110% in games. I'm looking forward to my senior year, keeping my grades up, and preparing for graduation. I'm excited about what the future holds."
